Some cities are read from the height of an observation deck. And then there is Shanghai, and it has to be ridden. Slowly, on two wheels, through the shadows of plane trees on the former concession streets, past stone facades that remember an era when this city bore a different name. This is how UCCC opens Shanghai to its community in regular bike rides, where the city speaks to you not through a car window, but through its own rhythm
Every route has its own story. One leads through architectural contrasts, where over three hours of riding you manage to live through a whole century. Another heads into the neighbourhoods that locals choose for their atmosphere, where cafés hide in old residential buildings and the walls still carry traces of time. A third stretches along the water, to where the city breathes fully, and the panorama unfolds as if someone had composed it especially for this evening
About the format
The rides take place on shared bikes, which means you do not need to own a bicycle. All you need is to open the app and join the group
The pace is moderate, arranged so that everyone is comfortable. No one here rushes anyone or hurries themselves. The goal is not speed, but the city: its proportions, its details, the legends that live on street corners and in conversations with locals
What you will see
Architecture in motion
From the stone facades of the former foreign concessions to the modern towers rising through the old city. Shanghai is not a museum, it is a living organism, and from a bicycle you see it best
Places not everyone knows
Neighbourhoods where locals hunt for shots for social media: small courtyards, old staircases, walls marked by the past. Places absent from tourist routes, yet these are the real Shanghai
History and legends
Every stop becomes a chance to hear what the plaques on buildings do not tell. About the people who lived here. About the names that changed. About a city that knows how to keep secrets
A healthy lifestyle
Moderate riding in the fresh air is not sport for results, but movement for pleasure. The most natural way to be in the city and be in yourself
When
UCCC bike rides follow a regular format, but depend on the season and the weather. In favourable months they take place more often; in the heat, the rainy season or the cold, less often or with pauses. Dates are never fixed in advance
